How Slovaks Use ChatGPT to Search for Information in 2026

7 min read

When Slovaks open ChatGPT, they are increasingly there to look something up. Almost 30% of the messages they send it are searches for information — about products, services or recipes, for example. In using ChatGPT to look things up, Slovakia ranks 3rd in the EU and 5th in the world, according to new OpenAI data. Here is what that says about Slovak users — and why it should matter to any company selling in Slovakia.

Key findings

  1. 28.7% of the messages Slovaks send to ChatGPT are information lookups. The EU average is 24.6%, the world 20.2%.
  2. In searching for information through ChatGPT, Slovakia ranks 3rd in the EU and 5th of 150 countries and territories worldwide.
  3. In personal (non-work) use, 32.2% of messages are information lookups — almost one in three.
  4. In 42.7% of messages, Slovaks want information or advice from ChatGPT. The rest are tasks (write, translate, create) or messages expressing opinions and feelings. Worldwide it is 36.9%.

How do Slovaks search for information through ChatGPT?

When Slovaks open ChatGPT, they mostly want advice or to find something out. It is the second of these — looking up facts, products, services or recipes — where Slovakia differs most from the rest of the world.

It is not a one-month blip. Slovakia has been above the world average for the whole of the last two years and above the EU average almost without a break — and its lead over the world has grown in that time.

CHART 01

In personal use the gap is even wider. When a Slovak opens ChatGPT outside work, roughly a third of the time they want something they would otherwise look up on the web.

Seeking information also covers questions about products and services — where to buy, what to choose, whom to recommend. If looking things up makes up about 40% more of Slovaks’ messages than it does worldwide, Slovak companies have good reason to find out what ChatGPT says about them. What do Slovaks use ChatGPT for?

Mostly for practical guidance and seeking information — together these two topics make up more than half of Slovak messages. Writing comes third. The full comparison:

Topics are sorted by the Slovak share. The last column is Slovakia’s difference from the world in percentage points.

The second big difference is writing. In two years its share in Slovakia has almost halved. It is falling in every EU country, but Slovakia is the lowest among its neighbours. In Slovakia, ChatGPT is shifting from a writing tool to an answer tool.

Do Slovaks ask ChatGPT for advice, or give it tasks?

People want three basic things from ChatGPT: information or advice (“which phone should I buy?”), a task done (“write an email to my supplier”), or just a chat — sharing an opinion or a feeling.

Slovaks ask ChatGPT for information or advice slightly more often than the average European and noticeably more often than the rest of the world. In personal use it is almost half of their messages. The often-quoted figure of roughly half comes from OpenAI’s 2025 study. Newer data shows the share has been falling since, in Slovakia and worldwide.

First group: share of messages asking for information or advice. Second: share of messages related to work.

The main reason is that people increasingly share their opinions and feelings with ChatGPT. Worldwide, the share of such messages in personal use has more than doubled in two years.

Do Slovaks use ChatGPT more for work or personal life?

Far more for personal life. Less than a quarter of Slovak messages are work-related — less than the EU average and the world (chart 02). In 2024 it was almost twice as much.

So Slovaks reach for ChatGPT mainly for everyday, personal questions.

Who uses ChatGPT in Slovakia?

Slovak users are older than the global average. People aged 35–54 make up a much larger part of ChatGPT use in Slovakia than worldwide, while the youngest group (18–24) is much smaller.

Estimated from first names, women now send most Slovak messages, although men clearly dominated as recently as 2024. So Slovakia’s ChatGPT audience is older and more female than the global average.

Do Slovaks use ChatGPT more than their neighbours?

No. In messages per person, Slovakia is only 60th of 173 countries and territories, and it has slipped since the start of the year. Czechia, Austria, Hungary and Poland are all ahead. So Slovaks don’t use ChatGPT the most — but when they do, they are far more likely to be looking something up.

What this means for Slovak companies

If Slovak customers ask ChatGPT about you, what it answers matters all the more. A few practical steps:

citeme.eu measures exactly this: for your prompts and your competitors, it tracks how often ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity mention you and which sources they draw on.

Frequently asked questions

What do Slovaks use ChatGPT for most?

According to OpenAI’s September 2026 data, mostly for practical guidance (29.7% of messages) and seeking information (28.7%). Writing is 15.1%, below both the EU and world averages.

How many Slovaks use ChatGPT as a search engine?

OpenAI doesn’t publish user counts by country, but it does publish message shares: 28.7% of messages from Slovakia are information lookups, against 24.6% on the EU average and 20.2% worldwide. That puts Slovakia 3rd in the EU and 5th in the world.

Can I find out whether ChatGPT mentions my business when people look for information?

Yes. The simplest way is to ask ChatGPT in Slovak the way your customer would. But a single answer tells you little — answers change with how the question is phrased and from day to day. That is why citeme.eu asks your questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity regularly and shows how often they mention you, whom they recommend instead and which sources they draw on. Try citeme.eu.

How can my business appear in ChatGPT answers?

AI first has to be able to find you and know who you are. AI bots must not be blocked from your website, your pages need to be in Google’s and Bing’s indexes, and there needs to be clear content about your business — facts, prices, comparisons and answers to common questions — ideally also on the sites AI cites. For a step-by-step guide, see How to improve your brand’s AI search visibility: 8 checks to start with.

Is it true that half of ChatGPT messages are requests for information?

Not any more. In July 2024, 45.7% of messages worldwide asked for information or advice; by September 2026 it was 36.9%. In Slovakia it is 42.7%, still above the EU average (41.5%).

Where does this data come from?

From OpenAI’s public Signals v3.0 dataset, published 26 October 2026. It is based on about a million messages a month from personal ChatGPT accounts. citeme.eu calculated the EU average from the per-country data.
